Why is this factor so important?

Nowadays,the cultural knowledge of travelers has significantly  increased. With this in mind, if you are not 100% sure about how to answer a very specific question, please do not make it up. This will make a huge impact on how the walkers perceive you and there's a higher risk of getting bad reviews. In these cases, an answer such as , ‘the truth is that I had never asked myself this, so I cannot give you an accurate answer, however, if you leave me your contact details at the end of the tour, I will make sure I get back to you´. It is very important to take into account the following:
  1. Make sure you know what you are talking about during the tour. Check the dates and historical facts that you name in order to make sure that everything you say is true. If in doubt, try to use expressions such as ‘approximately’, ‘close to’, ‘there is a legend/story that states that…’
  1. Quantify the amount of data you talk about during the tour so you don't overwhelm walkers with too much information.
Top tip: travelers tend to remember more centuries of events as opposed to specific dates, unless they are very remarkable events. Always remember to mix the data you talk about with valuable information that awakens the interest of travelers. For example, why are the buildings’ facade in Amsterdam tilted forward and have a hook on them? Why are the buildings here so narrow?
  1. Bear in mind that something  that makes a tour a unique and a memorable experience is that it has a guiding thread. Therefore, always try to ensure that the information you present follows a structure such as a story (introduction, middle and end) or around a game (solve mysteries).
  1. Impartiality is crucial when dealing with people with such different backgrounds. Try to avoid judging walkers by their personality, political, legal, or religious incline and do not encourage debates around them.
Do not forget to give recommendations on what to do in the city, nearby places of interest, restaurants, etc… As you know, it is one of the favorite moments of travelers.
